Cambodia’s First Night Market gets a Makeover

In 2007, Cambodia’s first night market opened for business in Siem Reap. Originally designed to sell handicrafts, the Angkor Night Market’s recent makeover has renewed its appeal..

If you are in Siem Reap with an evening to spare, we suggest checking out the city’s updated night market. Located behind Sivatha, one of the major throughways, this old market features newly built palm and bamboo stalls for selling goods.

In additions, the Island Bar, which prepares decent cocktails and plays music at a comfortable level, has been moved to the front of the market, giving it a prime location to watch passersby.

If you want to take your relaxion to the next level, have a seat at the Baray outdoor spa located next to the bar where you can enjoy a cocktail with your $4 foot scrub. (Foot scrubs are a MUST after a long day on the dusty Cambodian roads.)

The new market is cleaner, more spacious and more well presented than its predecessor. Based on the quality of goods seen they are also being more discerning with vendors afforded spaces. There are also artisans on-site, like Ma Boa who we found weaving traditional kromas well into the evening.

For those looking for something local to do in the evenings, spending time in the Angkor Night Market  is now a suitable option. While this area is decidedly marked by tourists, it is possible to enjoy an evening spent in this freshly restored environment while taking in the sights.
