Student Experiences

Student Immersion Tours, Volunteer Tours, and Overseas Classroom in Cambodia

Journeys Within Tour Company launched its Student Experience Tours in 20. After working with such programs as Global Buddies and with schools such as Loyola Marymount and West Point Academy, we wanted to offer these amazing experiences to more schools and groups.

Each of our tours works with middle school through university students to offer them a truly life changing experience. We have been so pleased to see how a trip to this region could really change students and we’re excited to offer your student group a truly unique experience.

If you are interested in arranging a student tour, please email andrea@journeys-within.com and let us set up a student trip that will change lives on both sides of the world!

Student Immersion Tour

Student Immersion Tour

See Cambodia through the eyes of local students. Ideal for ages 12 and up, this tour offers a look at Cambodia past and present and allows students to interact with their Cambodian peers in a safe and supportive environment.

We ask all groups to fundraise before arriving in Cambodia so they can see their money being put to use in local community projects and meet the people benefitting from their hard work. This is an amazing way for students to connect and learn about a country while making lasting connections.

Student Volunteer Tour

Student Volunteer Tour

The Student Volunteer tour is just that – an opportunity to better understand the Khmer culture and community through volunteer work with local non-profit community programs in a safe and supportive environment. Community programs include microfinance, clean water projects and language and art classes.

Volunteer days are interspersed with adventures in the local area, like visiting Angkor Wat, which not only deepens understanding of Cambodian people, but gives hard working volunteers time to play! A great way to do more than see Cambodia, but to really be part of Cambodia.

Overseas Classroom Tour

Overseas Classroom

This tour gives teachers the unique ability to shift their classroom setting to maximize hands-on learning. With a dedicated classroom, lectures or discussion groups can be arranged prior to or following an excursion into local culture, history, politics, art, language, agriculture, or economics, making it an exceptional educational experience. This tour is best suited for high school or university level student groups.

Journeys Within Global Connections

Created to bring individual students from across the USA together, this tour is specially crafted to create an amazing cross-cultural learning, volunteering and travel experience for students 13 and older. With a maximum of 8 students, this intimate voluntourism journey is lead by a knowledgeable student volunteer in coordination with Journeys Within tour specialist, which allows students to interact with Cambodians in a secure and cooperative manner. From community boosting volunteer work, to team building activities, to visiting World Heritage Sites, this tour is a growing experience that will truly change lives on both sides of the world!

Kayaking the hongs near Phuket, Thailand

One-day itinerary: Hongs by Starlight

Country: Thailand

1 Day

This unique tour, set up by the highly acclaimed John Gray’s Sea Canoe, highlights one of the most beautiful and unique locations in the world – Phang Nga Bay. Phang Nga Bay has witnessed a rapid growth in tourism in the past 20 years, not just for its pristine white beaches but also for its unique topography. The 400km-wide area is decorated with a display of uniquely-formed limestone karst islands, some just an outcrop of rock, others with low-lying land and beaches. Often likened to Guilin in China, or the magical Halong Bay in Vietnam, one of Phang Nga’s most appealing and captivating attractions are the ‘’hongs’’ , or lagoons, which lay hidden within the islands. It was these hidden worlds set among the towering limestone karsts that we went in search of with the Hongs by Starlight team.
