Keeping it light — packing for pros

Once you have booked your dream Journeys Within itinerary, it’s time to start thinking about what to pack for your trip of a lifetime. There are a few things to remember when considering what to bring along…

Pack light — Domestic flights in Asia have smaller weight limitations than international flights — most Southeast Asian airlines allow 20 kg of checked baggage and 7 kg of carry on.  Same-day laundry is widely available so you can limit the number of outfits you bring.  As it is generally hot, light-weight, loose fitting clothing is best.

Respect your surroundings — Southeast Asia is by-and-large Buddhist and has more conservative dress standards than you are used to.  At Journeys Within, we ask that our guests respect these customs by covering shoulders and knees, particularly when visiting holy site, of which there are many. Cities like Bangkok are much more relaxed in their standards, but if you plan on getting off the beaten path, packing some modest options shows respect.

Accessorize — Having a small selection of hats, scarves, belts and jewellery are a great way to spruce up basic outfits. Pack fewer than you need because beautiful handcrafted pieces are available throughout Southeast Asia — new accessories will double as keepsakes of your trip.

Here comes the sun — The sun is very strong during the daytime, so make room for your sunglasses, sunscreen and brimmed hat.
