Senteurs d’ Angkor Workshop

By: Kathryn Rose

Senteurs d’ Angkor is a great little workshop right down the road from Journeys Within, and they are making some amazing soaps, lotions, oils and even spice blends. All of the boxes that products come in are handmade, many of them on-site. The soaps and spice blends are made there, and some of the ingredients are right outside in their garden.

The free tour of the workshop is interesting, but quite short. They show you their herb garden, how they make rattan boxes, and what spices go into their curry or amok blends.  The highlight of the tour for me was seeing them packaging everything they make. Each bar of soap is labeled and wrapped by hand, each package of curry spices is hand filled and tied with banana tree fibers. I was amazed at their efficiency and the care that went into each product.

When you get to the store at the end of the tour, it is hard to not buy anything. After you see all of the hard work that goes into each and every product, it makes you want to buy them even more. Senteurs has a huge range of body products, and also candles, scented oils, jewelry (many of the necklaces are made of seeds and other natural fibers) coffee, and cooking spices.

The tour is free and there is no need to schedule a time, so it is a great way to spend a free afternoon, or even just an hour. The property is beautiful, and at the end of your tour they offer a free drink of tea or coffee, both of which are their own personal blends made on site. It is a great spot to sit and drink a nice cup of iced tea on a hot day.
