Birding tour map

With its tropical climate and varied natural environments, Cambodia is a bio-diversity hot spot populated by an overwhelming number of stunning plants and animals. Looking to show off the country’s natural beauty and the amazing variety of birds these eco-systems attract, the Sam Veasna Center (SVC) has planned a one of a kind tour of the Cambodia’s many avian habitats.

This birder’s dream come true is an exclusive chance to tour parts of Cambodia, near and far, in search of some of the world’s rarest birds.

From leaping Bengal Floricans, Giant & White-shouldered Ibis’ and 3 critically endangered species of vultures, a trip to the Cambodian bird sanctuaries is guaranteed to be an experience of a lifetime. Even the world’s largest woodpecker, the Great Slaty can be spotted at forested sites throughout the trip.

This 19 day itinerary, with a possible four day extension, is the ultimate tour for bird watchers. Planned to start Jan 25th, 2015, the excursion will take a maximum of 8 guests across Cambodia in search of winged wonders. These tours will offer a unique chance to go after all the Cambodian critically endangered bird species.

Not for the faint of heart, this trip is for outdoorsy adventurous types who want to spend more time outdoors than in — this truly is a one in a lifetime experience.

More about the Sam Veasna Center (SVC)

Sam Veasna was a pioneering Cambodian naturalist who tragically died of malaria in 1999 aged 33 while surveying the Northern Plains of Cambodia for the now extinct Kouprey. During his short life he was responsible for discovering and cataloging many of the most important sites for conservation in Northern Cambodia, including the discovery of large numbers of Sarus Crane at Ang Trapaeng Thmor. The Sam Veasna Center was set up in his memory to promote conservation throughout Cambodia and find ways to continue his work protecting the endangered species of the country.

The SVC manages wildlife viewing trips with exclusive access to Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) sites across Cambodia. They are registered as a local NGO with the Ministry of Interior since 2006. Their goal is to provide an alternative sustainable livelihood from eco-tourism for the local communities at the sites that WCS prioritizes for conservation. In return for the income and employment the centre helps create they ask the communities to sign no hunting and land use agreements, which are monitored by Ministries of Environment and Forestry patrol teams advised by WCS.
