We chose Journeys Within for a private guide and driver tour of Cambodia and Laos to celebrate my 55th birthday, and were not disappointed. At a dinner show in Siem Reap we were relieved to be seated (at a table) overlooking the group tours below (seated on the floor). At a Phnom Phen dinner show we were seated next to a Japanese business group – again at the best available tables. Our drivers took us to the front door and were waiting to drive us back to the hotel, a welcome safety feature.
Hotels were spot on with good rooms (concierge floor if available). We’re 2 and 3 star travelers at heart, but truly enjoyed Andrea’s recommended 4 star picks when history and location made more expensive hotels recommended. Andrea listened and chose well. Our 2 star Luang Prabang hotel had a balcony overlooking the Mekong. When we ordered a Lao beer to take an afternoon “balcony break”, the waiter presented us with a gorgeous birthday cake. We had our Christmas photo after having a tasty sliver and gifting the rest to the hotel staff :-). I truly doubt my 55th celebration can be topped, but my 65th’s fast approaching …
For a second special birthday (Cliff’s 65th) we again chose Journeys Within to visit Burma. After hot air ballooning over Bagan’s amazing temples we returned to find Cliff’s birthday cake and present waiting. It wasn’t such a surprise this time as we laughed and toasted yet another “Andrea Moment”. Cliff’s already hinting his next great (70th) birthday trip should be to VietNam with Andrea’s well trained team.
Sister Chris took my suggestion to use Journeys Within to plan a special 25th birthday mother-daughter celebration. A highlight of her and Katie’s trip was volunteering at Journeys Within Our Community classes. We traveled to Cambodia over 9 years ago – in Journeys Within’s first formative year.
