Photo Friday, oops, I mean Sunday!

I got a little behind in the blogging the last couple of weeks because I was too busy having a fantastic beach vacation and I refuse to pay the internet rates the hotels were charging! I have therefore put together all the Photo Friday photos for the last two weeks. The team has been busy across the globe!

Here are some photos that I took with my friend when we went to Hien waterfall. The first one is my friend we went with to the waterfall. This is local waterfall which is far from Luang Prabang to the south. It is same way to Vientiane but after 40 minutes we have to turn right in to the dirt road. From here it takes about 2 hours drive by motorbike. We have to go very slow because of dust when the truck pass we have to stop for few minutes because it is too cloudy to see the forward way. This waterfall isn’t beside the main road we have to go on small road about 3 Km to see it.

My baby’s growing up! This week he started pre-school. Where many people have the experience of their child clutching their leg begging them not to go -this was not how my day went.
Me to Gavin “Alright Honey, do you want me to stay or go, cause I can stay here for a while if you want me to.”
Gavin: “No, go. Bye!”
I forced him to pose for one quick picture (yes, Photo Friday was in my mind at this moment 😉 and this is the best I could get. The expression says it all. “Gee Mom, can you just go so I can play?” Poor kid – wonder what the pictures will look like when he goes to high school!

Nicole Long/Laos Director/Luang Prabang, Laos (visiting NYC)

AHHHHH! I am finally at a homebase for a few days!  Back in New York City after traveling for the last four days! I love walking around airports, but the 18 hour layover in Hong Kong was too much!  Anyways, a previous JW guest and JWOC donor graciously allowed me to stay at her NYC apartment in the trendy meatpacking district (thanks Kimberly). Here is a photo of the view from her apartment.  Can you believe it is snowing?!? I couldn’t!  And how classic is it with a NYC police officer paroling on horseback! How wonderfully NYC romantic is that?

I had to move all the belongings in my name from my old home in NYC to my brother’s house in Virginia.  Not having a driver’s license (stolen in NYC) my only option was to take the train. I don’t know how many of you take trains, but I find it most enjoyable.  Maybe it has something to do with having a lower stress level while traveling. You can move around the cars comfortably and you’re not thousands of feet up in the air! Even though it was a nine hour ride, it was lovely to look out the window and see the beauty of the country pass by.  We went through Washington D.C. and I captured this shot of the Washington Monument.  I haven’t been back in the states since the election. Needless to say I was smiling ear to ear as we passed through our capital.

One of the best parts about my trip back to the states was to visit my family and my sprouting naughty nephews.  Here is a picture of my two nephews, Michael (7yrs. old) and Austin (3yrs. old).  As you can see by this photo Austin is the fighter, if you couldn’t already tell by his choices in clothing (batman suit with a wonder woman cape). Michael was trying to be the good older brother and go about his business finding one of his new toys he got for his birthday and Austin would NOT let him be. He was pulling and tugging with all of his might to bring Michael down. Aren’t the older ones supposed to beat up the younger ones?

After a brief visit with the family I arrive back in NYC for just a few days to pack up my final things to either ship to Va. or lug with me to Laos. So, ready to be finished with all of this traveling, sorting and shipping!  As I look out my taxi cab window at this strong and beautiful city I realize that I miss her very much, but not as much as I would miss Laos if I called this my home again.

Usually Cambodian get married after the planting rice reason has been done.
Every year in wedding season I got a lot of wedding invitations that almost all I have to join and give the present to the new couple. The wedding in Cambodia take around 3 days because we have the steps to do that each step relate to traditional and religion. The other thing I never forget is the party that we do on the last day of wedding. It’s fun!!!

In photo, a wedding party in country side of my home town that they do the party during the day time which different from wedding in city they do in the evening.

It was hard to choose the photos for the last couple of weeks and you can see all of them by clicking here.

(disclaimer: this link is better for people that REALLY like my kids and can handle almost 100 photos of them). Below I put a photo of each of our highlights from the trip:

Couper’s highlight: His number 1 highlight was watching the man clean the ice during intermission at Princesses on Ice, but since I failed to take a photo of this must-see, I have included his second favorite, kayaking in Phang Nga. We saw a Hornbill, some lizards, a lot of fish and a cave full of bats.

Callie’s highlight: The water slide at Koh Phi Phi Village Resort.

Brandon’s highlight was shopping in Bangkok. Here the kids try on some cool fight gear:

My highlight: I loved it all, but the Koh Phi Phi Village Resort and our private pool was a real treat. Having the whole family playing in one place with no interruptions was really great.
