Excited for their own adventure, guests often ask us for book recommendations prior to their travels. While historical books offer factual context and fictions use their story to give a sense of time and place, sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words …
Over the course of six weeks, author Candace Rose Rardon visited seven Asian countries — Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Along the way she created beautiful sketches that capture moments in time.
Annotated with real-time observations on the drawings themselves, each photo is accompanied by short stories that detail the author’s experiences, the people she met and the feel of each location.
More than a travel book, the sketches in Beneath The Lanterns Glow embody the spirit of the Southeast Asian destinations she depicts. With her stunning, unassuming and elegant drawings Candace offers more than a travel book filled with facts and recommendations but rather a glimpse at the simple pleasures that await.
Wow this is so nice! With the drawings, they will serve as reminder what beautiful countries you have visited already. As for me, i have no talent in drawing. So, I have to find other ways to remind me the beauty of countries I’ll visit in the future aside from buying souvenirs in those countries.
Exactly! Something about her sketches really captures a feeling that we all hope to get.
This is need to know stuff!
