Thanks to Rich Cook of Circle Graphics for the quick update to our logo, which he first designed for us over 8 years ago! Here’s our new logo for the hotel (I’m still getting used to writing that!) in Siem Reap.
Day 2 is done and we had tears. This morning, since most of the trees are now chopped down, we could plot out the buildings…cue tears! The buildings were way too close together and we felt that our guests eating breakfast would have a nice view of guests in the new rooms – not ideal! One of the things all our guests comment on is what an oasis Journeys Within is and we don’t want these new buildings to ruin that feel. So I cried, and then Brandon found a solution (it really does work every time!). We have decided to take down the pump room and staff room and relocate them and our new rooms will go here, nestled behind the pond and next to, but not on top of, our original rooms. The pump room will fit well in the corner behind Ramayana Retreat and we are going to put the staff room closer to the house so it will be better for everyone. While this will of course add to the budget, it isn’t too much and I think having the restaurant and rooms not looking directly at each other will be great. Here’s where we’ll be adding our new bungalows….
And here is the future site of our restaurant and spa…

What do you think? Can we keep our oasis feel and still have a nice new restaurant and new rooms? Have we chosen wisely with our placement?

I have chills. So dang excited!!! I can not wait to see them when they’re complete! PS – you know my husband is already asking which room he gets to name ; )
geeez, I leave one day ago and things have already totally changed! But I like the new spot!
I needed you Kate! Brandon even said, “go and get Kate so she can tell us what she thinks.” I guess he hadn’t noticed you weren’t here?!? Hope you’re enjoying your travels and glad you approve of the new spot!
ps. Aren’t you proud I got a blog post up without you!?!
You did not tell me about the Spa and new restaurant!!! Woo Hooooooo! I really like the idea of putting the rooms where the old pump room was, makes better sense. Is the spa going across from the current restuarant patio on the other side of the walkway or is it going where that bamboo/grass hut is with the hammocks??
Hi Nicole, Thanks, I think the rooms instead of the pump room will be nice and they will overlook B’s pond:) The spa is going to be above the restaurant, it will be the same style as our current rooms, but without the bed and with massage beds instead:) We have a professional (Pat Requa!!) coming to set it up for us so we’re lucky to have such good people helping us with everything!
