Photo Funday debut

Okay, so while Photo Friday has the advantage of alliteration, it has the disadvantage that I am too busy and the time zones of my team make it too hard a challenge. Hence, Photo Funday (like Sunday, get it?! I do love alliteration!).

To celebrate the move to Sunday primetime we themed our Week in Photos to a restaurant and food theme, I know my team, and this is close to all of their hearts! Thai food seemed to reign supreme across the globe, but don’t miss the curry spaghetti…it tastes better than it sounds!

Arienne Revai/Booking Coordinator/Truckee, Ca, USA

Arienne says, “This week I went to the best restaurant in Truckee, Thai Nakorn!! My Fiancee, Ben and I got so many yummy Thai treats. We started with fresh spring rolls and fried tofu, then ordered Green Curry and rice. We also had the Pad Thai special. We finished it off with Sweet rice and custard, which was absolutely delicious. We just love the staff they are always so funny and have great service. In June we’re taking our honeymoon in Thailand and Cambodia so we have been going to Thai food more and more. We always try different things so we’ll know more of what we like when we’re there. Ben is a very picky eater but we haven’t found anything on the Thai Nakorn menu that we didn’t like yet!! This morning April told me she was going to take her pictures here but I went first 🙂 after all it is the best food in Truckee!”

Nicole Long/Laos Director/Luang Prabang, Laos

Nicole says, “One of my favorite restaurants in Luang Prabang is View Kheam Kong Restaurant. It is located right on the Mekong River on an beautiful open balcony. It is a great place to get traditional Lao food (and some Western if wanted) for a good price. Usually I bring visitors and friends to eat here because you never know which riverside restaurant will be the best (there are plenty to choose from). I have never had a bad meal here. I personally know the cooks and they always put a lot of love into there food. One of the reasons I visit this place once a week is because one dish that is the fusion of two things I love – curry and spaghetti! I know it may not sound appetizing, but trust me that it is delicious. This is not a traditional Lao dish, but this is the only place that serves it. As you can see I was so excited about eating it that I forgot to take a picture of it before devouring it. Sorry for the half eaten photo of their famous curry spaghetti, I counldn’t resist!”

Kwanchanok “Jeab” Meechai/Thailand Director/Bangkok, Thailand

Jeab says, “Today I have family steak (Thai style) I love to drop-in there when I am on the way to visit my relatives in Bang su district, I used to stay with them when I was the student. It just makes me feel so good and relax to do waterway journey. I started my journey with the sky train and get off at Taaksin Pier to catch the express boat and get off at Bang Po Pier then that restaurant is further away I get there by walk just about 5 minutes. They are the family doing the steak and have been open for a long time. I like this place because; 1. It’s tasty and 2. It has very reasonable prices!

They served many menu steak, salad, soup and French fried, etc. you can see from the menu big board. I ordered pork steak and mushroom soup (my favorite soup) I ate them quickly and the food all disappeared!

April O’Connell-Cole/Tour Consultant/Truckee, CA, USA

Sooo, I was going to take pictures at my favorite restraunt per my Photo Friday instructions, BUT Arienne beat me to Thai Nakorn so I choose to take my Photo Friday Challenge to my second favorite “restaurant” in Truckee. Here’s a picture from the outside. I’m sure you’ve never heard of the place before huh?

Here’s a picture of the great food they have to offer. This portion serves a group of two and contains enough caffiene to help those two people through the next few hours until they come back for a second helping.

And last but not least, here’s a picture of me enjoying the feast I ordered from the comfort of my car heading back to work. (Quick shout out to Melinda for knitting me the adorable beanie I happen to be wearing in this picture)

Andrea Ross/Director of Tours/Siem Reap, Cambodia

Andrea says, “Everyone that has ever stayed with us at Journeys Within B&B knows my favorite restaurant, it’s Madame Butterfly. The setting is a beautiful wood house on road #6 and the food is the best in town. Their banana flower salad is one of the foods I miss most when back in the US in the summers and their chicken satays are amazing. We recommend this restaurant to all of our guests and the feedback is always great!”

Brandon Ross/President/Siem Reap, Cambodia

The debut of Brandon in our Photo Funday is a pretty big deal, what did it take?!? Dinner at Kings BBQ in Siem Reap, because what sounds better in the middle of April in Cambodia…cooking over an open fire of course! Maybe the sweat adds flavor??

Brandon says, “To celebrate Khmer New Year we took our staff out for dinner before giving them the week off. I love cooking my own food and it’s just a fun night out…it is a little hot in April.”

  1. I vote for Madame Butterfly. When we were there and stayed at your B&B, we had our best meal there.

  2. I vote for the B & B!! The fresh Spring Rolls are AMAZING. Mom is probably the best cook in all of Cambodia 🙂
